New Hutch

Posted by

As soon as I laid my eyes on this hutch I knew I had to have it. I emailed the buyer right away before anyone else beat me to it, and begged for it. --Tip: begging does not give you a strong position when haggling.

When my husband picked it up he learned that it was originally built in Canada by a homeowner and had been in the house of the seller's parents when they first got married up there. I enjoy learning the history of the pieces I purchase.

I loved the knotty wood, and was a little hesitant to paint it, but I can't help myself so I went for it. Since I am in my white period these days I used Old White, and distressed the hell of out. My husband is not really into too much distressing, but I learned from experience to just go with the opposite of what he recommends when it comes to painting my pieces :)

I love it so much that I think I am keeping it for myself, at least until I find something better. This piece also screams for some ironstone dishes, which I am planning on getting as soon as fair/garage sale season starts in my area. Can't wait!
